Face Shapes

Choosing the right hairstyle for your face shape is an important aspect of your overall look.
What's it have to do with color analysis? Well, technically, it is not intrinsically related. But, makeup is, and knowing how to apply colors is essential. And it is a topic I discuss in my makeup eBook so I wanted to go over it here on my website as well.

While the “ideal” shape is OVAL, only one person in 50 truly has an oval face.

What you would like to aim for is a hairstyle (and makeup) that helps balance out features to make your face appear more oval-shaped.

Why is the Oval face shape so great? Who knows. But it is considered the ideal. Aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
We know, of course, that there are lots of non-ideal face shapes that are beautiful, but for those who want to aim to be as close as possible to the ideal, read on.

Take the humble egg and flip it vertically, and you have close to the ideal face shape.

Once you know your face shape, you can utilize makeup - contour, highlighter, blush - and hairstyles to balance things out a little.
Face shapes also are a factor in the types of necklines, jewelry, and other accessories you can wear successfully.

See our model above. She has a heart-shaped face, though it is sometimes referred to as an inverted triangle. She's beautiful no matter what she does to her hair, of course. But utilizing the principles of aiming for balance, see how her hairstyle makes such a difference.
The hair by her forehead (no bangs) vertically shortens it, while the soft waves by her chin add weight and volume to the width of her face.
